Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Specialists
Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse Specialists are highly trained nurses who diagnose and treat people with mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders. They perform detailed mental and physical health assessments, interpret lab tests and EKGs, create treatment plans, prescribe and manage medications (in states where it is allowed), and provide individual, group, or family psychotherapy. They also design and improve community mental health programs, lead crisis response efforts, and work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other health professionals to make tough decisions about complex cases.
